The Moments that Stay With Us

Preoccupied I was
with running free
or
just trying to be
more than
I could ever have
imagined.
Brought down the
thoughts
from the clouds
and left them for
the true seekers
to slop up
as I
busied myself
with
glorious endeavors
like making sure
they knew
my name.
Breathing for the cause
with every step
but
mentally lost
in righteous
laughter filled
applause.
As I let the sun
go down
on the dreams
of a better tomorrow
I contemplated on
how
you and me
are still here
together
but
separated
by worlds.
Not sure anymore
what
we’re waiting for.
Maybe
some lighthouse magic
in advance of
the procession of the damned.
Patient you were
with this headstrong
jester
looking to find
my own court
in which
my hunger
could fester.
Hid my desire
in plain sight
to cover up
the absurdity
of a frightened life’s
demise.
Still
I know that
time
is hard
to come by.
You’re busy
I find
stuff to do –
no excuses –
this is me
and you.
This is
what we have
this is
who we are
this is
the only way
I could have traveled
this far.
Moment
by moment
is ticking away
and all the same
it seems
I’m not ashamed
of the many nights
I just went to sleep
and left you alone
working
turning off my
conscience
so that I could
get by
and not worrying
about the precious
time
I let slide.
When it’s
all said and done
the tears have dried
and you’ve had
your fun
all I want is
a moment
for you and me
when nothing else
matters
but
us.

  1. Beautiful conception and beautifully carried through. Should remind us all that time is not a river, only a warp in the time-space continuum. Love your work!
