This week’s prompt is: Faith, Tolerance and Mutual Appreciation
The great Rarasaur recently wrote an open letter to her most loyal reader; the one that can’t stop emailing her about all that he finds wrong with Rara’s blog. That got me thinking about my own favorite reader, the woman who won’t stop trying to save me after every post that I write on personal faith.
I would write a post on religious tolerance and finding the temple within, and this woman, dedicated to my salvation, would immediately answer by telling which form of divinity to insert into that temple. Which brings me to today’s prompt. What does your faith, whether it’s in science, religion, or the power of your own intellect, mean to you? Does faith mean that you cannot tolerate the equally passionate beliefs of others to their chosen form of worship, or are faith and tolerance not mutually exclusive ideas? And isn’t tolerance something you keep for a mischievous uncle? Is appreciating diversity a betrayal of personal faith?
*Write an essay about your views on the compatibility of faith, tolerance, and/or appreciation.
*Write a poem, story, or share a photo that shows the dynamic of faith, tolerance, and appreciation.
*Any inspired offering that somehow relates to your relationship with your faith and how that affects your view of those with divergent paths?
For the purpose of this prompt faith can be interpreted as whatever you believe in and shouldn’t be taken to mean exclusively religious beliefs. It can also be academia, self-awareness, mortality, your own personal philosophy, etc.
