This week’s prompt is:   Entertain with the Mundane

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”

― Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath

“All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.”

― Ernest Hemingway

“Description begins in the writer’s imagination, but should finish in the reader’s.”

― Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

We’ve all heard of Mark Twain’s legendary advice, “write what you know.”  This week’s assignment is to take some small aspect of your life and write it up in an entertaining way.  Makes us laugh, makes us cry, or hold us in suspense.  In some form or another, entertain us with the mundane.

The article that you link to this prompt should be a new post written specifically for this assignment.

Dungeon Prompts are meant to open up the abandoned rooms inside ourselves and dust them off a bit.  Explore the recesses of your mind and get back with a poem, story, essay or creative offering.  Link your post to this specific prompt page and I’ll share your link back with our readers.

To participate, all you’ll need to do is:

1.            Tag your post with: “DungeonPrompts”

2.            Link back to this page in the body of your post *

3.            Dive deep within and give us a glimpse of your soul!**

*note: If the pingback doesn’t work, then please leave the link to your post in the comment section.

**If you don’t have a blog please feel free to join the discussion in the comment section.

  1. If I have some time this weekend, I may give it a try… I really haven’t written much lately… I’m engrossed with photography instead. I didn’t know I would like it so much… Love, Lor

  2. I have taken your most excellent challenge and present this to you for your consideration.
Entertaining the mundane, why should I do this??? The mundane is soo boring, common, it ain’t where the foolish wish to go. Yet the mundane is very important for those who become aware of a hard reality, the reason why to live in interesting times is considered a most foul curse. Peace is found in the mundane, so are comfort, healing and love. Yet the one who wishes my soul to remain in this hell strongly desires the opposite of the mundane for me, my enemy tempts me with the fantastic, the incredible, tempts me to action before I am ready. Salvation is found in the mundane if I am only patient enough to wait, don’t let my enemy force me away from the mundane, NO, let me embrace the mundane and find the treasures that await if I will entertain the mundane.
