Dungeon Prompts: Overcoming Ourselves

This week’s prompt is:  Overcoming Ourselves

“It’s not all bad. Heightened self-consciousness, apartness, an inability to join in, physical shame and self-loathing—they are not all bad. Those devils have been my angels. Without them I would never have disappeared into language, literature, the mind, laughter and all the mad intensities that made and unmade me.”

– Stephen Fry, Moab Is My Washpot

“The greater the artist, the greater the doubt. Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize.”

– Robert Hughes, Modernism’s Patriarch (Time Magazine, June 10, 1996)

Today’s Prompt:

Tell us about your experiences with overcoming yourself.

The article that you link to this prompt should be a new post written specifically for this assignment.

Dungeon Prompts are meant to open up the abandoned rooms inside ourselves and dust them off a bit.  Explore the recesses of your mind and get back with a poem, story, essay or creative offering.  Link your post to this specific prompt page and I’ll share your link back with our readers.

To participate, all you’ll need to do is:

1.            Tag your post with: “DungeonPrompts”

2.            Link back to this page in the body of your post *

3.            Dive deep within and give us a glimpse of your soul!**

*note: If the pingback doesn’t work, then please leave the link to your post in the comment section.

**If you don’t have a blog please feel free to join the discussion in the comment section

About the author

I am a King without a Kingdom, in a world with many masters, wrapped in the spoils of a jealous heart, and my people’s callous laughter.

  1. I’m currently working on both finding myself while overcoming myself. It creates a bit of a paradox. This ifs a life affirming post and a lesson in patience.
