I used to pray…
well, I used to make deals –
give me what I want
and my faith I’d reveal –

but turns out the glory
you can reveal on your own
and my little old dreams
were a bone you’d not throw.

You had your own way
to get me to stop
looking for love
in all the wrong places –

you’d give little tastes
to quell my frustrations
but reveal them as sewage
and not where the grace is –

so I’d just move along,
no damage was done,
and you’d look and you’d laugh
at your funny old son.

And so I no longer cry
for this or that toy,
for the glory is yours
and I am but a boy,

staring into the abyss
– not for name or fame –
but to find there,
in your infinite,
my original
aim.

  1. Ah, the sewage of our desires… that is certainly a way to put it! I think we get just enough tastes to sufficiently appreciate the prayers that aren’t answered. I like the way you tie in the end with the original aim of finding love.

  3. Hey Sreejit – that’s a lovely poem! Your words echo what many of us think.
BTW, don’t go looking for Him, He’s there allright, He will find you! Just believe (and I don’t mean in the traditional form of religion or rituals!!) and keep up the good work! See you around virtually!
