I’m kinda like
a lemon meringue pie –
a shot of bliss
with no lasting high.

For the crust, mix in
an extra serving of ego,
add a desire to serve
but an aversion to people.

Cook hard, and then crumble
– add just a touch of humble –
now for the layers
the people doth favor:

The cream’s important,
for it takes up the most space
it’s made of emotion,
heartache and grace.

The topping’s the smile
you’ll get when I’m nice,
– but take care or it’ll sour,
curdle, or cry –

besides empty calories,
it’s made up of dreams
but they’re fluffy and empty
and will ruin your teeth.

  1. Haha, this made me smile. The last time I tried to fluff up that meringue it was a disaster…never had trouble before but that really brought my confidence down that I don’t dare try again…of course my daughter chuckles at that time too:)

    1. Hey you! Why did I discern that readily? Your teetering between intro- and extrovert, that is? I can totally see that come through in your writing. That’s one of the things I love about good writing. You glean insight about a person that you wouldn’t otherwise. Surely, I’d love to write a post for Walking with Intention. You pulled my card! 😉 Always good to be here.

    2. Is it too late, Sreejit? Apparently, I’ve been more than intentional in staying off WP lately, during this last month. Please let me know if you’d like me to still contribute and I will, gladly. If not, perhaps we can fold it into another writing project you have. Otherwise, I’d be happy to craft an essay (4-5 paragraphs) and submit it to you by first thing in the a.m.
