Imaging a world where people respect each other enough not to reject each other – but I don’t have that much faith in humanity so I stay on the periphery, away from all the pontification, away from all the self-adulation. The middle of things is where the monsters lay in wait, their teeth sharp, their sarcasm on point, ready to show how much clearer or smarter or truer or devoted, how much more faith they have in their own ideals, how that faith makes their reality more real – so I stay on the periphery and keep to myself, knowing that talking with people is not good for my health.

I don’t know if the wisdom of this (a form of encapsulation or a form of acceptance ? ) is wiser than a refusal to be confined. Jessie Jackson one said we must be driven by our hopes not our fears.

  2. Yep, I get it! My three day weekends, I treasure at least one or two to be alone…I turn off the sound of my phone, so I don’t even hear a text or phone call. During the 4 days I work, I am ‘in the middle’ of things hearing what the evil things monsters do and how sharp their teeth are. So, standing on the sidelines nurturing oneself…makes total sense!
