Beholden

What is in a “thing?”

– heartbeat or not –

even inert matter holds sway over our emotions and our thoughts – wrapped up in memories, glimmers of truth and lies, our compromised realities reflecting treasured ties –

so,

what is in a “thing?” heartbeat or not, does it exist before we see it, can it breathe before we free its thing-ness, realizing there’s no constant in this physical realm, when our realities differ depending on the experiences in which we dwell – can a thing exist separate from the awareness by which it’s molded, unwrapping it from the heartbeat of the eyes that have it beholded?

– illusion bound are we, throwing ourselves into our struggles, because all we know are the walls that we have created to preserve our troubles, for we exist for the sake of soaking up the pain we call our own, troubling not to search beyond the illusions we have carefully sewn –

– all we can say for sure, in a world where nothing’s certain, except that we will go on cowering behind illusion’s curtain,

is that all the things of this world, and the troubles that we shoulder

carefully keep us from beholding the actual beholder.
